Observations from CES 2022: All The Data Points You Need For A Smart Office

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES), originally started in New York City in June 1967, as a showcase for new consumer products.

Since then, the yearly show has become a major event attracting visitors from all around the world. Many companies use CES to launch new products. You might have some of these products in your home or office:

These innovations were all launched at CES, and the show is the most highly anticipated event of the year for tech enthusiasts.

Who Attended CES 2022?

CES 2022 was held in Las Vegas in January 2022 and provided a global audience with access to major brands and start-ups, as well as some of the world’s most influential leaders. 

The show comprised over 2,300 exhibitors, more than 800 start-ups, 200 of the Fortune Global 500, and 66 of the top retailers and leading US and global media.

Despite the pandemic, CES 2022 opened its doors to over 45,000 in-person attendees across 11 different venues, with almost one-third of attendees coming from outside the US (from 119 countries).

The main emerging tech-driven trends that came out of CES 2022 that will impact consumers and marketers over the next few years were: 

• The metaverse
• Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and crypto
• Sustainability and repairability automotive and wellness
• Smart home

The show saw numerous new products that support these trends as well as many new devices for more mainstream technologies.

The World’s Smallest Sensors & A Complete Sensor Suite at CES 2022

The DT team was at CES to showcase the world’s smallest wireless sensors for the first time and launch two new products, the Wireless CO2 Sensor and the Wireless Motion Sensor. 

The new sensors launched at CES 2022 build on DT’s existing sensor suite that enables customers to collect data from their buildings and to use it to help transform how they operate. 

The Wireless CO2 Sensor provides indoor air quality monitoring while the Wireless Motion Sensor detects room occupancy. As with the existing sensors these two devices use the Cloud Connector as the secure pathway to cloud-based data storage. 

With this new technology, we can now provide all the data points needed for truly safe, smart, and sustainable indoor spaces.

Attending CES 2022 In-Person - Observations From the Disruptive Technologies Team

The DT team was busy showcasing our full sensor suite for indoor spaces at the Smart Home section.

The CES Smart Home area was a great forum not just for consumers, but also for very targeted B2B discussions, according to Uwe.

Erik agreed that granular data from the physical world has become a must have for companies looking to improve the quality and decrease the cost of products and services.

Chris and Pippa observed that the attendance was down by nearly 70% compared to previous in-person conferences they had attended. But the smaller crowds provided the opportunity to have more engaging and productive conversations.

The only downfall? With so much interest in the DT products, Pippa wished she had had more time to “get around and see the entire show because there is so much amazing stuff”.

Some common themes emerged from the DT team when engaging with visitors to the stand. Chris noted that “form factor, battery life, and operational simplicity attracted the interest of a diverse array of vendors. From data centers to architectural firms to boat manufacturers, attendees saw a wide array of applications for DT's cutting edge sensors“.

Pippa put it more bluntly and stated that “people actually couldn't believe our sensors. The number of people that were gobsmacked was awesome!”

Some discussions became more technical, and “many visitors of the DT booth were impressed with the high level of pre-existing background knowledge of sensor technology. Most already knew of DT's superior properties, matching our most advanced tech with their very specific application needs” noted Uwe.

According to Erik, the attendees showed impressive knowledge and interest around IoT applications, now more than ever.

The final comment is from Uwe, who summed up the feeling of the DT team, and probably other attendees to the show, when he said that he “was impressed with CES's unwavering commitment to run this show in the face of pandemic adversity, finding flexible ways to keep everyone safe and removing obstacles. Well done, CES team!”

The COVID-19 pandemic and the worrying effects of global warming means the world needs real solutions NOW more than ever. And DT’s showcase of easy-to-use, affordable IoT sensors and infrastructure created buzz from workplace managers and tech enthusiasts.

The positive reception from CES 2022 means the world is finally heading towards using tech for good - to make our workplaces healthier and our buildings more sustainable. Sensor technology is now considered a necessity. And it is more accessible and affordable than ever before.
